Voicemail retrieve from Email ? Have some issue on setup.

Hi, does anyone have any idea the steps to setup my outlook to received voicemail from my phone? I try to setup but was unsuccessful when I leave a voicemail for myself. Following are the settings I have set

incoming IMAP IP : 10.1.10.1
outgoing IMAP IP : 10.1.10.1

Email Add : My email outlook email
Username : 10.1.10.1's Username
Password : 10.1.10.1's password

I ran into this. Make sure

I ran into this. Make sure you have set the group in the CUE to allow privliges to the vm-imap service.

The command to check for is:

groupname IMAPgrp privilege vm-imap

..or for whatever group you are having issues with.

I have also seen mailboxes disabled so check for that too.

From my understanding, if

This scenario should work:

If you have a user eg. Joe Bloggs whose username is jbloggs and password 000000 then in Unity Express make sure that the user is part of the IMAPgrp group and make sure that integrated messaging is enabled.

Then in outlook:

incoming IMAP IP : 10.1.10.1
outgoing IMAP IP : 10.1.10.1

Email Add : jbloggs@10.1.10.1
Username : jbloggs
Password : 000000

The other option if you are running Exchange server is try the method in this post:
http://www.uc500.com/enabling-message-notification-cisco-unity-express
I have seen this scenario work fine.

Yes I running Exchange

Yes I running Exchange Server, I have did the steps as mention from the link.

Now I be setting up for a new IMAP account in my Microsoft Outlook. Following are the fills I key in when creating the IMAP account.

Email Address : user@mydomain.com.sg <-- this is my email add

Account Type : IMAP
Incoming Mail Server : 10.1.10.1
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) : webmail.mydomain.com.sg

Username : user@mydomain.com.sg
Password : (user@mydomain.com.sg password)

When I used the above setting, I am unable to login.

But if I use the Username, Password as cisco, cisco which is the default for Unity Express. I can login but there will be no notification.

Kindly advise. Thanks

Exchange

If using exchange what you need to do is set it up to use SMTP rather than IMAP.

In the Unity Express GUI configure the DNS server, domain, hostname etc. and also configure notification for the users entering the email address and notification schedule etc

I have found that it is easier to configure the SMTP server settings through command line though as you can be more specific with the authentication username by following the process below

• Using Windows command line or a telnet client, telnet to the IP address of the UC500 system
• After entering enable mode in the CME command line, access the CUE command line through the following command:

Service-module integrated-service-engine 0/0 session

• Enter the username/password for CUE when prompted or press “enter” to bring up the prompt
• Enter enable mode and then further into the configure terminal
• Once in the configure terminal, enter the following command string:

Smtp server address x.x.x.x authentication username domain\xxxx password xxxxxx

eg. smtp server address mail.demo.com.au authentication username demo\username password P@55w0rd

then you dont actually need to configure IMAP on the email client, the exchange server will pass the email to the email box specified against the user in CUE

Exchange

I have done with the settings for Hostname, Domain, DNS Server and also the SMTP settings in UE

Now I do not need to setup a IMAP account as I can use my POP/SMTP account to received the voicemail.

But when I try to leave a voicemail for testing my email notification, I wasnt able to receive anything but my phone notification works fine.

For CLI, do I still have to do the above setting since I already did it in UE GUI?

As I wasnt able to key in the commands - Smtp server.. are % Unrecognized command.

My UC flash is flash:uc500-advipservicesk9-mz.124-11.XW7.
My UE IOS is UC500-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M

Thanks

The username and password

The username and password that you need to enter for the SMTP are for your domain.

The domain that I used as an example was demo.com.au

The way I did it was to create a user in active directory for unity express ..... eg. u/n: username p/w: password

Then in the CUE command line you can put in demo\username as the username for the authentication.... the GUI will only let you put in a username.

eg. CLI - DEMO\username
GUI - username

I found that this made the difference with the SMTP authentication, the Exchange server was rejecting the notifications.

email address

the email address is username@10.1.10.1

Other than that, your settings seem fine. just verify correct username and password.

Voicemail retrieve from Email ? Have some issue on setup

Thanks specwar.

I try recreating a new account on my microsoft outlook, using the ways you mention but it still doesnt seems to be working.

Is the email address's @10.1.10.1 to key in suppose to be the username created in UC unity?

Many successful IMAP deployments for me!

If you are using SMTP for message notification then, even though the message is delivered, when the message in your Outlook inbox is marked as read, the MWI is still active until the message is accessed through the phone.

IMAP setup:

1. In Outlook, when setting up the new IMAP account, check the "Manually Configure Server Settings or Additional Server Type" checkbox. This will grey out the screen and let you continue. The email address is irrelevant.

2. Click Next

3. Choose Internet Email, then click Next.

4. "Your Name" is just used for identification purposes. Email address is irrelevant, so it doesn't matter what you type there. Account type: IMAP. Incomming mail server is the IP address of the Unity Express module. Outgoing Mail Server is irrelevant since IMAP is one-way only, but the wizard will not let you proceed unless you type something there. Login information is your Unity Express login and your Unity Express PIN number.
Click on "test account settings" to verify that you can authenticate. Click Next then you are finished.
