I just got SMB Select certified. I am about to order the demobox kit. Is this system worth the money? I see reviews from others (on other sites) that they are better or easier to manage or cheaper.
Allworx, PBXnSIP, IPitomy etc all tout great feature, low cost etc.
I don't want to waste my money on something that won't sell or if it does create issues with clients for call quality.
Feature lists usually seem better on other systems but time will probably give the UC520 more bells and whistles.
I need to order tomorrow to get some referrals from Cisco going with their current promo.
Thanks.

Im rolling out my third uc520 on Friday in the space of 2 weeks, call quality is not an issue with them, I'm using 7931 handsets and I really like them, they're big and solid and the speaker phone is A+. I've also used alot of 7940 / 7960 handsets and they're just as good.
In my opinion the configuration GUI for the UC520 isnt that great, but the last couple of versions have improved a fair bit so once again time is just a factor.

Ha, that reminds me of a something interesting. I was taling to a fireman buddy of mine a couple weeks ago on my speaker phone (7960 phone) and out of the blue he asks me if I'm talking on a Cisco phone. Granted he knows I'm using VoIP anyway, but after I answered yes he went on to say that he guessed that I was because the speaker phone sounded really good. He had talked to other people I guess in that past that used Cisco phones in their office and said that the quality was distinctively very good. This is a fireman, not a techy.
So the speaker phone is good quality both ways.

Talking about voice quality
The Latest phones 7965, 7962 and such, anything that ends in a 5 or 2 all support the G.722 codec. G.722 provides better audio fidelity that G.711, which has been used by telcos on T-1s and E-1s for decades. The current IOS in Voice Gateway routers also supports G.722. So the promise is better than toll quality audio fidelity.
This codec is already supported in Call Manager 6. I hope to see it in CommunicationsManager Express / Uc500 soon.

There is a reason why the others are cheaper. Where you pay less for the others you will pay more in support hours trying to make it work or in time trying to piece products from multiple vendors together to build a complete solution.
Don't forget that in order to match the UC520 you not only need to match voice, but you need to come up with a firewall, routing, switching, VPN (IPSEC and SSL), wireless, ISDN, POTS, and voice gateway solution.
The UC520 is a badass little all-in-one box.
