SIP Trunking Providers

Below I've moved a few comments regarding SIP Providers from other areas of the Site.

Please feel free to comment.

SIP Trunking Providers

I'm using Broadvoice right now (http://www,broadvoice.com) - but the connection is going through a Linksys ATA and coming into the UC500 as an FXO connection. I did get broadvoice working on the UC500 as a true SIP Trunk...simply was a proof of concept and never ran it as "production". I've also seen several people that ran ViaTalk (http://www.viatalk.com) with a pretty good success rate.

My biggest issue with ITSP (Internet Telephony Service Providers) is if they can support local PSTN numbers in a given area. For example, I'm in Southwest Georgia. It would be foolish for me to connect a SMB to an ITSP that only has Atlanta numbers...doesn't make sense and the biz owner doesn't want that.

SIP trunking providers?

Can people share their experiences using various SIP trunking providers with both CME and UC500?

It would be great to hear if it has been working for you, what issues you've been having, and would you recommend the provider for future opportunities?

nexVortex SIP trunking

I've been using them with my UC500 for a few days now and no problems; I wasn't expecting good audio quality because the calls are going over the Internet, but the call quality has been flawless so far. The offer a pay by the line and a pay by the minute plan.

Issues I've had with the UC520 is silence. They can hear me, but I can't hear them. This tends to happen when I put someone on hold and I take them off hold. I get around it by putting them on hold again and taking them off hold and then I can hear them. If I don't do that, sometimes after some time I will be able to hear them, sometimes they get tired of me saying hello and hang up.

One line. Not sure if this

One line.

Not sure if this is true with other providers but with BV I only have one line and I'm able to receive another call and have someone on a different line pickup a phone and make a call. Is this a feature I'm not supposed to have that I'm getting?!

"5. Currently I have one issue and that the AA does not respond to key inputs for the prompts from external calls but it does work if the calls are internal. I have another post for this questions so hopefully someone can give me clues."

- I'm having that issue now with Broadvoice. I switched DTMF/sip settings on the UC520 to no positive results. Who knows how many calls I'm missing out on. Going to see if Broadvoice will switch otherwise I have Primus paperwork sitting right next to me. They say their service works with Cisco. I'm going to compare to ViaTalk, since I've read about good results.

Got it working on Broadvoice w/ no ATA

I already had a Broadvoice account and didn't want to cancel it for via:talk.

I have a ASA5505 behind the cable modem and decided to put the UC500 behind the ASA as I didn't want to reconfigure my network on the UC. Anyway, just wanted to add that it is possible to get the UC500 working on Broadvoice's BYOD network.

If you're having problems getting it to work, get rid of the proxy-xxx.broadvoice.com and put in sip.broadvoice.com as that was the one PITA issue for me before it finally all came together.

ViaTalk on UC520

Hello,

After reading some threads on SIP Trunking and the ITSP, I went ahead and picked ViaTalk as my test provider, no particular reason. I should state that I am new to the telco world and the terminology so I apologize if I miss use terms.

1. I placed an order and within 24 hours I had my number and login info.

2. The install was very simple, I used the CCA 1.5 tool to configure the SIP Trunk Provider info. Although the CCA GUI makes it easy to configure most of the system I still had to go CLI. Not sure if it is required but I have seen some UC520 configs with the MWI info defined which I had to enter via CLI.

3. Using CCA 1.5, I could not enter the PSTN number in both the AA-PSTN-Number field and VM-Access-PSTN-Number field. So I entered the 10 digit PSTN in the AA field and ony 9 digits in the VM field. Then I went in w/CLI and corrected the VM PSTN #.

4. Using CLI I had to allow inbound SIP traffic to the CME. CCA should not be used to configure the FW in my humble opinion.

5. Currently I have one issue and that the AA does not respond to key inputs for the prompts from external calls but it does work if the calls are internal. I have another post for this questions so hopefully someone can give me clues.

It has been only 2 days since I got the UC520 configured with ViaTalk and the calls up to now have been clear and solid. Have to wait to see how they respond when I run into issues.

Great site.....

What do you think of their

What do you think of their customer service and the quality of your service?

I read some pretty horrible reviews at http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/user_reviews/viatalk_user_review.htm
http://www.voipreview.org/review.details.aspx?root=84

Question on VM PSTN

ED,

What did changing your voicemail access PSTN number do for you? Can you access your voicemail from this number?

I spoke to someone at Cisco TAC, and they said you would have to dedicate a PSTN just for voicemail access. Is this the case?

Thanks

Ed- Were you able to resolve

Ed-

Were you able to resolve the AA issue with external inputs? Was getting ready to order my service and wanted to check before I did.

Thanks

AA with Viatalk

Hello,

Yes, I was able to get them to Switch DTMF to auto which resolved the issue I encountered.

I have only had to contact them once for tech support and their response was quick ending with a postive result.

I chose them for the price and so far the service has been very good.

Hope this helps?

Regards,
Ed

Thanks Ed

So far so good with ViaTalk. I took Ed's advice and called Viatalk and asking them to set DTMF to Auto, which took all of 10 minutes. AA works fine, as does the voice quality.

Can't beat the price at 199 for 2 years.

I guess I'll be leaving BV

I guess I'll be leaving BV for my test environment as they said they are unable to change DTMF to auto.

Re: nexVortex SIP Trunking - Thanks

I took your reccomendation Bob and setup an account with nexvortex (with good results). Here is a link to what I had to do to configure the SIP account on my UC520 http://uc500.com/connecting-uc520-sip-trunk-itsp-internet-telephony-service-provider-nexvortex.  I think I'll try setting up an account with viatalk next.
