Normal Ring and Line Monitor

Our receptionist phone is a 7961 and I have 3 POTS lines that have their own unique DN assigned. Each DN is assigned to a different line button on the 7961. I was hoping to be able to monitor the line even after the call is taken. But 'Normal Ring' assignment does not show the line status after the call has been transferred. If I do a 'Monitor' I don't think I can make or take calls on that line button. What are some recommendations for button assignments. We do have a 7914 side car but I cannot assign the same DN for normal ring and monitor.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Specwar, your suggestion is basically what we are doing now. All the other company phones are 7941's so they just have to do a PickUp dn# if the call is not transferred from the 7961. I'll read through the example configs to see if I can learn anything new. I'll post a solution if I find a better way.

line status

I recently setup a customer similar to this, who wanted all the PBX features, but still wanted it to work like a key system. needless to say, it was a pain of an installation.

What I did was create a DN for each PSTN line they had, then setup each line appearance on the phones with a normal ring button. The trick is to then have the users put the call on hold (not transfer). So the receptionist would recieve a call on line 1, put it on hold, and ask the destination staff member to 'pick up line 1'. that way the call is always active on that DN, and the line status is monitored.

Does not make for the best configuration, but they were happy.

Key System Mode

Configuring the system in KTS mode should help you accomplish what you need.

configure phones using a Key System.

Thanks, but a key system

Thanks, but a key system setup will not work for us as we are doing site-to-site PBX. Any other suggestions. If not we'll have to just live without this ability.

Hybrid Mode

The system can operate in Hybrid mode, but you will need CLI configuration. Check out those links for config examples.
