Cisco Introduces the 6900 Series IP Phones

Cisco introduced 3 new phones today.

I See no word on if they are compatible with the UC500 series and CME yet.  They also look like they do not support G.722 and are being introduced as a lower cost, enviro friendly handset.

Below are links to the Cisco 6900 Series Data Sheet and Data Sheets for the individual phones.

According to Cisco

The Cisco Unified IP Phone 6900 Series offers greater personalization, with the choice of two colors and two handset style options. Right-to-left language presentation is also supported on the displays, addressing the language localization needs of global customers.
The Cisco Unified IP Phone 6900 Series is also more energy-efficient and eco-friendly, in support of customer green initiatives. A Deep-Sleep option provides energy savings. With this option, the Cisco Unified IP Phone 6900 Series consumes up to 50 percent less power in off-hours versus when the phone is idle during normal business hours. In addition, reground and recyclable plastics deliver a more earth-responsible solution.

How many device license units (DLU) are required for the 6921/6941/6961?

What a mess

I hate to negative Sally here today, but these new phones are a mess. It looks like all three handle line appearances differently: the two-line 6921 has no line appearance buttons, so it looks like you scroll through them, the 6941 has four line appearance buttons (lighted? maybe) and splits the screen in two (two on each side), and the 6961 uses a 7931-like arrangement with paper line labels. The big selling point appears to be that you can put your own custom badge (manufactured by unnamed Cisco-approved third-party sources) on these things in place of the Cisco logo. Maybe I missed the group clamoring for this feature. And four different physical variations for each model (two colors, two handset styles)? Yikes. They should just sell the bases and the handsets separately and call it a day.

To be fair, the "green" features are very nice to see, and they've avoided the two biggest sins of the low-end 7900 series: the LCD displays are backlit and all three models actually have full duplex speakerphones. But the lack of G.722 support is baffling; even the lowly 7906 with its intentionally-crippled "monitor speakerphone" can do G.722.
