Cisco SR520 Review and Configuration for in front of a UC520

So I took the SR520 I've had out of the box it has been in for a couple of weeks and started to play with it.  My reason for getting it was

#1 to add a new toy to my lab and

#2 To setup an SSL VPN since that feature is not supported on the UC520.

So here is the topology I accomplished.

I have a SR520 connected to the Internet, with a UC520 and a 3560 POE switch behind it.

The first thing I found when opening the box was that it was typical Cisco.  No quick start guide or real documentation of any type.  The UC500 at least came with a CD with a quick start guide on it.  Note to Cisco - SMB folks like instructions or even piece of paper with where to find them would be nice.

Was I concerned that I couldn't find any instructions in the box?  Heck no.  I've always been one to play first, break it and find the instructions later.

SO I played around a bit, found a configuration guide online. reset it back to the factory defaults and got it working.  For those of you wondering what configuration guide, the SR520 configuration guide happens to be the CCA1.8 configuration guide.  That makes sense right?  Here is a link. It actually is pretty good as far as getting basic connectivity up. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_configuration_assistant/version1_8/quick/guide/English/UC500SR500.html

I understand it is a new product.  It took a while for UC500 documentation to be put up as well.

Below are my highlights from the CCA Guide.

About Hunt Groups in the UC500 and Cisco CME 7.x

With The introduction of Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express 7.0 (CME) on Cisco ISR Routers and the UC520, there are now two different ways to provide hunt groups.

The traditional method is using the ephone-hunt command in global configuration mode.  Using the ephone hunt command requires that all of the endpoints are SCCP ephones.  So if you want to use an analog phone in an ephone hunt, they must be under SCCP control either through an ATA or at FXS port that is under SCCP control using STCAPP.  One of the advantages of this method is that you can define dynamic members of a hunt group that can log in and out to service calls.  Available methods of call routing include longest-idle, peer and sequential.  This also is the default method that CCA1.8 uses for the UC520.

The newer method is to use the voice hunt-group command.

This command has been recently expanded to allow the following:

  • Call Forwarding to a Parallel Voice Hunt-Group (Blast Hunt Group).

  • Call Transfer to a Voice Hunt-Group.

  • Member of Voice Hunt-Group can be a SCCP phone, FXS analog phone, DS0-group, PRI-group, SIP phone, or SIP trunk.

Voice-hunt groups do not support dynamic logins of agents.  To configure these on the UC520 it must be done at the commandline.

Looking for Configuration Guides for a Multisite Scenario on CCME and UC520

HI,

can anyone tell where i can find Configuration Guides to implement a
multisite scenario?

We have an ISR 3825 with CCME 7.0.x in our HQ and an UC520 in our BO.

Unified Mailboxes

Hi,

I'm trying to create unified voicemail boxes that can be used for both desk phone and mobile phone voicemails.

Fax Redirection to Email

Is it possible to have the UC500 detect that an incoming call is a fax and redirect it with the final product being an email sent to the end user who was originally called.

outbound call routing, route group/pattern

Hi,

Integrating the UC500 with Analog Gateways

Check out this link for information on how to integrate UC500 with the Linksys ATA SPA8000 and the Cisco VG224 24 port FXS gateway (look under Voice Analog Gateways):

Simple Call Center Application that includes report generation

Using B-ACD Scripts to create a call center application.

We recently put together this App Note describing how to enable a Simple Call Center Application on the UC500. Check it out:

CME Toll Fraud Prevention Measures

There is a new application note that helps administrators secure their CME/UC500 systems and mitigate the threats of toll fraud.

Cisco Configuration Professional - Free to replace QCT

So I have started playing with the latest version of Cisco Configuration Professional. It is a free download for managing ISR Routers. I wish it worked on the UC520! It is a nice improvement on the Quick Config Tool used previously with ISR routers. The Quick Config Tool is still available but only supports Unified Communications Manager Express up to version 4.1. CCP is sort of a cross between QCT and the CCA tool used for the UC520. You can use it for initial config and ongoing maintenance from a GUI interface.

CCP v1. 1 Feature Highlights:

UC520 with 1861 code?

UC520 with 1861 code?

has anyone tired to load the OS for the 1861 on a uc520?

If so what are your experiences?
If not does anyone know or think its possible?

B-ACD setup

Hello,

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have the BACD setup. However when I call in the prompts do not play. Here are my configurations below.

Button Separators In Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CME) and UC500

Cisco IOS button commands

I've seen a bit of confusion on the site regarding Button Separators used for assigning an Ephone-dn (or extension) to an ephone.
